Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel are used in almost every workplace. This tutor-led workshop will introduce you to the basic tools required to get started using each program.

Microsoft Word Beginner Skills

– Open a Word file
– Use the Arrow keys to move the cursor
– Use the mouse to move the cursor
– Use the Backspace key to delete text
– Insert text
– Insert numbers
– Insert dates
– Insert correct spacing before and after punctuation
– Save changes to a file
– Close a file
– Use the Enter key to create a new paragraph
– Use the Enter key to create vertical space
– Use the Backspace key to delete vertical space
– Fix spelling mistakes
– Use the Undo tool
– Save changes using a new file name
– Print a file
– Use the Underline tool
– Use the Bold tool
– Use the Center tool
– Use the Font Size tool
– Use the Bullets tool

– Use the Arrow keys to move the cell pointer
– Use the mouse to move the cell pointer
– Use the Delete key to delete a cell
– Insert text
– Insert numbers

– Use AutoComplete
– Change the contents of a cell
– Change the width of a column
– Save changes to a file
– Close a file
– Insert a row
– Delete a row
– Use the Undo tool
– Save changes using a new file name
– Print a file
– Change the alignment of a cell
– Change the alignment of a range of cells
– Make the contents of a cell bold

When does the course take place?
The workshop takes place over 4 mornings/afternoons in 1 week. Please contact us for the next available dates.

How big is the class size?
Our courses are delivered to small groups at our Aberdeen training centre – there are about 3 learners in a group. We can provide onsite training to larger groups for company bookings.

Are there any entry requirements?
Before enrolling on the course you must be able to commit to attending all 4 training sessions. You should also have some basic IT skills, eg be able to use the Internet.

Will I get course notes?
Yes, you’ll receive easy-to-follow course notes for future reference.

Will I get a certificate at the end of the course?
Yes, you’ll receive the following e-certificate: EC-PC Word & Excel Beginners Workshop.

Funding Options

If you live in Scotland you could be eligible to get up £200 towards the cost of a training course with an SDS Individual Training Account (ITA) from Skills Development Scotland.

You can apply for ITA funding if you are aged 16 or over and:

– you are unemployed, or
– you are employed and have an income of £22,000 or less per annum, or
– you are self-employed and have an income of £22,000 or less per annum, or
– you are retired and your total pension income is £22,000 or less per annum, or
– you are not working and have no income

You will not be able to apply for ITA funding if you are in school, or are enrolled in a College or University course, or if you are involved in any other SDS funded programme including Modern Apprenticeships.
