Group Course tutor-led course

The aim of this tutor-led course is to give you the basic skills to get started using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

As well as covering the basic tools in Microsoft Word we’ll give you tips on how to improve your CV. You’ll also learn how to update and make basic changes to Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

Microsoft Word Beginner Skills

– Open a Word file
– Use the Arrow keys to move the cursor
– Use the mouse to move the cursor
– Use the Backspace key to delete text
– Insert text
– Insert numbers
– Insert dates
– Insert correct spacing before and after punctuation
– Save changes to a file
– Close a file
– Use the Enter key to create a new paragraph
– Use the Enter key to create vertical space
– Use the Backspace key to delete vertical space
– Fix spelling mistakes
– Use the Undo tool
– Save changes using a new file name
– Print a file
– Use the Underline tool
– Use the Bold tool
– Use the Center tool
– Use the Font Size tool
– Use the Bullets tool

 

Microsoft Excel Beginner Skills

– Use the Arrow keys to move the cell pointer
– Use the mouse to move the cell pointer
– Use the Delete key to delete a cell
– Insert text
– Insert numbers
– Insert dates
– Use AutoComplete
– Change the contents of a cell
– Change the width of a column
– Save changes to a file
– Close a file
– Insert a row
– Delete a row
– Use the Undo tool
– Save changes using a new file name
– Print a file
– Change the alignment of a cell
– Change the alignment of a range of cells
– Make the contents of a cell bold
– Make the contents of a range of cells bold
– Apply a fill colour to a cell

When does the course take place?
The course normally takes place over 4 mornings, Monday to Thursday. Please contact us for the next available dates.

What are the course times?
10.30am-1pm each day.

I can’t manage mornings, can the course run over 4 afternoons?
Yes, this can be arranged on request.

How big is the class size?
Our courses are delivered to small friendly groups at our Aberdeen training centre – there are about 3 learners in a group.

Are there any entry requirements?
To get the best out of the course you’ll need to make sure that you can attend all 4 training sessions. If you have any appointments these would have to be rescheduled before starting the course.

Will I get course notes?
Yes, you’ll receive easy-to-follow course notes for future reference.

Will I receive a certificate at the end of the course?
Yes, you’ll receive the following certificate: EC-PC Word & Excel Beginners Workshop.

Funding Options

If you live in Scotland you could be eligible to get up £200 towards the cost of a training course with an SDS Individual Training Account (ITA) from Skills Development Scotland.

You can apply for ITA funding if you are aged 16 or over and:

– you are unemployed, or
– you are employed and have an income of £22,000 or less per annum, or
– you are self-employed and have an income of £22,000 or less per annum, or
– you are retired and your total pension income is £22,000 or less per annum, or
– you are not working and have no income

You will not be able to apply for ITA funding if you are in school, or are enrolled in a College or University course, or if you are involved in any other SDS funded programme including Modern Apprenticeships.
