Health and Safety in the Kitchen
This tutor-led course will give you an introduction to the basic Health and Safety requirements that you’ll need to know if you want to work in a kitchen.
1 Day (6 hours approx)
* Cost based on one person attending a scheduled course at an arranged venue in Aberdeen city centre. The course can also be delivered at your premises or at a hired venue in the following locations: Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth, Stirling.
This course will cover the following:
Module 1 – Your employer’s duty to you
- safe working environment
- health and safety staff and policies
- risk management
- incident reporting
Module 2 – Basic Health and Safety in the Kitchen
- slips and trips
- hygiene and food safety
- manual handling
- burns and scalds
- using equipment
- cleaning products
- handling waste
- fire precautions
- handling knives
- cash handling
Workplace Health and Safety Signage
- prohibition signs
- mandatory signs
- safe condition signs
- hazard signs
- fire signs
- information signs
Is there any funding available to pay for the course?
Yes, funding is available for individuals living in Scotland, subject to T&C’s.

Are there any entry requirements?
You will need basic literacy skills, eg be able to read English.

What are the course times?
Module 1 – Your employer’s duty to you: 09.30-12.30
Module 2 – Basic Health and Safety in the Kitchen: 13.30-16.30
(Note: it may be possible to attend Module 2 on a different day if required)
Will I get a certificate at the end of the course?
During the course you will be required to sit an assessment. If you pass the assessment you’ll receive the following e-certificate: EC-PC Health and Safety in the Kitchen.
